With summer heating up, people are headed outdoors to cool off: parties al fresco, open air festivals, days by the water with a boombox playing. Under the spell of long days and hot nights, that annual phenomenon arises to mark each year as distinct – the song of the summer.
Last year, Brat took over dance floors around the world, and people jammed to “Espresso” and Chappell Roan on the beach. Pond checked in with Andree Hoxfeldt, the Copenhagen-based DJ better known as @entree, to ask about how he spends summer in Copenhagen, his favorite gig, and the soundtrack to his sunny days by the water.

Can you tell us about your work as a DJ – how did you get your start, and what do you love about your job?
It actually started out as a bit of a joke. A friend and I created a Facebook page (Yes, I am that old) where we pretended to be DJs, which we definitely were not. But a bar reached out to us and asked us to play, so we did without knowing what on earth we were doing. It was a lot of fun, so I decided to practice, and the rest is history.
How do crowds come alive in different ways during your shows in the summer? Is there a different feeling in the air?
My favorite gig of the year is at a day rave I host during Pride. The sun is always out, and the vibes are immaculate. I love playing open air gigs during the summer, when I can see people's faces better. It makes it much easier to connect than playing in a dimly lit club in the wee hours.
What's your favorite thing about Copenhagen?
Copenhagen really is the perfect size for me. I feel like commuting is a waste of life, so not having to spend more than 20 minutes to get pretty much anywhere in the city from where I live is just chef's kiss.
What does Copenhagen in the summer mean to you? What makes the city so special?
Nothing can compare to Copenhagen during summer. Always being within 10 minutes of a body of water makes it so much easier getting through a hot summer. There is just a certain easygoing, laissez-faire vibe in Copenhagen during the summer months that makes me fall in love with the city over and over again.
Why do you love urban swimming?
I pretty much always bring my swim trunks with me no matter where I go during the summer, so I can jump in the harbor whenever I have the chance. I was on both the water polo and swim team when I went to high school because I love the freeing feeling of being in water.
You know a lot about music. What makes for a great track for spending time by the water?
This may seem a bit off since playing music is my way of living, but I would actually recommend you to turn off the music and listen to the water. It's incredibly soothing.
What should we all be listening to this summer?
We should all be listening to Sudan Archives new track, “Dead.” Song of the summer for me for no doubt.
